Staying cool when the heat is on - Practical insights for more flow and less stress

Hi *|FNAME|*,
It's my absolute delight to share this Gold with you in the second edition of my new newsletter. So, let's get started.
“We cannot achieve more in life than what we believe in our heart of hearts we deserve to have.” ― James R. Ball
What do you deserve? Have you ever even considered this question? It is such a powerful notion to contemplate, especially I believe for women, but for all of us.
The truth is we ALL deserve happiness, health and a life of ease. Yet many of us just let life carry us along without intentionally CREATING how we want our lives to be. Lives with more flow and less stress.
So, to help you do just that here are some awesome bits and pieces to inspire you and provide you with practical ways you can intentionally create a life full of joy and ease.
Developing habits and rituals to get you where you want to be
I’m afraid, that for the majority of us This. Is. Not. Easy. But, the good news is there are lots of tools that can help with this.
Building on one of the articles from my last newsletter about creating structure and parameters to help manage the flow of ideas, I wanted to share with you a tool that has quite literally transformed my life! (No endorsements, pure excitement).
My brain is TERRIBLE at creating rituals and habits, at staying on task and not jumping to outside the box ideas. While great to have on occasion this has caused me a lot of grief in terms of the impact I can have by helping others.
Enter Best Self Co. Self Journal. I know it sounds very individualistic, but if you want to make good things happen – good for yourself and others – and you have a creative brain that is full of great ideas, this journal is a Godsend!
One tip though, if you do invest in one, get on-line and DO THE WORK involved in understanding how to use it for it to really turbocharge the impact it can have on your life.
And then don’t forget to also…

Do Nothing
While so many of us have friends our hearts are with right now in NYC as this terrible pandemic tears through there, I am so grateful for the wonderful articles the New York Times ever reliably provides us with. And this is a beauty.
Harking back to their last summer, this wonderful article reminds us of a much simpler time and importantly that You Are Doing Something Important When You Aren’t Doing Anything.
Bonnie Tsui puts it so well:
“We all struggle daily with the balance of work and play. Both are essential to a life full of meaning. Fallow time, when practised the right way, can remind us why we chose our work in the first place”.
And as you likely know by now if you read this newsletter, one of the most health-giving and my favourite way of doing nothing is by meditating. But I also get just how hard it is to get a practice going and to make it stick.
I LOVE helping people get over this hump so don’t hesitate to schedule a call to discover how I can help you do this or read on for some more meditation inspiration.

How To Master your Mind
My latest meditation teacher crush is Sam Harris as he combines the wisdom from years of meditation in Eastern traditions with a PhD in neuroscience.
Also from a few months ago, I still wanted to share this with you as this talk by Sam on the Tim Ferris Show podcast really crystallizes many of the ideas that hold true in my experience of mindfulness and meditation and their remarkable ability to help us get the most out of our brief time on this planet.
Just a heads up, it’s a pretty meaty listen, but absolutely worth it. However, if you want to skip the talk and go straight to some meditation practices, they start at about 50 minutes and 30 seconds.
I am taking Sam’s Waking Up meditation course (delivered as audio via an App) because although I have been practising meditation for many, many years, there is absolutely always value in learning from others when it comes to our minds. As he so eloquently puts it in the first line of the course:
‘Your mind is the basis of everything you experience in life and of every contribution you can make to the lives of others. Given this fact, it makes sense to train it.”
‘Nuff said!
Lastly...
CREATIVITY vs. PANDEMIC. Your Brain is a Creativity Machine
I love this article by Phillip Romero, M.D and family psychiatrist, from Thrive Global which explains that:
“If we cultivate and respect the power of creativity as a natural antidote to stress, we benefit in numerous ways”.
So, don’t forget to absolutely give yourself permission to spend time on creative projects as a weapon against stress.
It's so nuts, but many of us do need permission. I'm giving it to you right now.

Sending warmth and love,
Susie x
